Music

Here are some recent compositions produced since March 2018 with the help of my great composition teacher Mary Badarak. (And also some other compositions dating back as far as 2003.) Would love to know what you think. The pieces are written in the free software program musescore.com. The computer play-back is pretty good. Click on the link to see the pdf score for each piece. My favorites of these are the TWO-PART INVENTION #5 for piano, the quartet VARIATIONS ON SIMPLE GIFTS for small ensemble, SONATA FOR CELLO AND PIANO in two movements, APPALACHIAN HOMAGE (to Aaron Copland) for small ensemble, SATIEESQUE for flute and piano and the choral work PROPIXIT ET REQUIEM. Also check out the RESISTANCE OVERTURE for full orchestra.

(posted Dec 29, 2018)

Fuguette in C (1:35)
Trio for Flute, Oboe and Bassoon
This was supposed to be a fugue, but it turned out to be something else.
Score
MZ2 Trio (1:48)
Trio for Flute, Oboe and Bassoon
This was supposed to sound like Mozart, but of course it doesn't. I think it's still interesting.
Score
Love What You Love Poem Fantasy in Bb (2:57)
Chorus for Soprano, Alto and Baritone with Piano Accompaniment
This is based on a poem by Mary Oliver titled "Wild Geese," with some minor edits and additions to the text. I've written to the publisher asking for permission to use the poem. I love Mary Oliver's poems and particularly like this one for its "get off your knees" message.
The computer simulates human voices. The text can be found in the score.

2017

Appalachian Homage  (4:24)
for Chamber Orchestra
3.5 Minute Symphony  (3:37)
for Full Orchestra

2003 – 2016

This is a sample of music from earlier years composed on an early composition program called CakeWalk. The playback sound is not very good, except for the brass trio and piano. At some point this will have to recomposed in a better system. I don’t blame you if you choose not to listen to this stuff. And I may or may not add more.

Brass Trio  (0:56)
Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello (1:42)
Fanfare for brass and percussion (0:49)
String Quartet #1 Movement #3 (3:32)

(more to come……)
